Over the past three blog posts, we’ve covered where mould hides in your home - from windows and ceilings to showers, and how to safely clean it.
Now, let’s bring it all together in a simple, practical mould prevention guide. Think of this as your go-to cheat sheet for keeping your home fresh, healthy, and mould-free all year round.
🔁 Quick Recap of the Trouble Zones:
🪟 Windows
Wipe condensation daily
Open windows slightly to improve airflow
Use dehumidifiers or your air con’s dry mode (raindrop symbol)
Clean sills weekly
🏠 Walls & Ceilings
Act fast when you spot black or white mould
Clean with hydrogen peroxide-based sprays or vinegar
Wear protective gear and ventilate well
Reduce humidity with regular airflow and dry mode settings

Prevent mould with:
Squeegee after use
Exhaust fan on during & after
Keep door open
Clean weekly and replace mouldy sealants
💧 Your Everyday Mould Prevention Toolkit
1. Ventilation is EVERYTHING: Even 10 minutes of fresh air can make a huge difference. Open windows and doors when the weather allows.
2. Know how to use your air con: The dehumidify function (look for the💧 symbol) removes moisture and helps prevent mould in humid weather. Bonus: It uses less power than cooling mode which is great for your home and your power bill!
3. Use dehumidifiers:
Electric dehumidifiers are great for problem areas
Small disposable or refillable ones work well in cupboards or on windowsills
4. Clean little and often: Small weekly cleaning routines can stop mould from taking hold. Set reminders to check windows, bathrooms, and ceiling corners.
5. Remove moisture where you see it: Wipe condensation as soon as it forms - on windows, walls, tiles, or ceilings.
💬 Final Thoughts
Mould prevention isn’t about doing it all, it’s about doing a little consistently. A few minutes each day can save you hours of scrubbing later.
